The record

Sixteen teams contested the 1985 event in short-wheelbase Land Rover Ninetys. This model follows the period photograph of the Italian entry KT1327XX, identified by a surviving temporary registration and Camel Trophy plaque documented by Ronald Janus. It represents the car in normal expedition configuration, before the equipment and doors were removed for helicopter transport.

The visible fittings include the external windscreen cage, mesh brush guard, high-mount winch, four roof lamps, two roof spares, perforated recovery boards and raised air intake. Its bonnet is bare apart from mounting hardware and tools. The red-on-white registration follows the surviving original plate. Rear spare placement follows another Ninety visible in the same photograph; exact concealed cargo is not established. The operating country records the Italian crew, rather than the Indonesian route. Specific preparation provenance has not been established.

AI rendering impression

An AI rendering impression starts from the registry's own 3D model of this vehicle, which an image model then paints into a scene. It is an artist's impression of the type, made to give a feel for the vehicle in its element — not a photograph, and not a record of any particular vehicle.

Proportions, fittings, markings, colours and the setting can all drift from the original in the process. For the vehicle's actual details, rely on the registry's 3D renders, the specification and the cited sources on this page.
