History

The 718 continued the six-wheel layout with a water-cooled diesel and optional automatic gearbox. This representation uses the P90 2,383 cc six-cylinder specification and olive soft-top troop-carrier body. The later 2.5 TDI was a five-cylinder, not the engine represented here. The factory manual dimensions are 2,200 mm between front and first rear axles, followed by 980 mm between the rear axles. This corrects the draft 2,210 mm wheelbase and the queue brief’s description of 2,200 mm to the bogie centre. The supplied Swiss ambulance photograph is an earlier petrol-generation body, retained as family context rather than evidence for this 718 troop carrier. Austria and British 716/718 service are supported by the S-TEC military parts catalogues; Swiss operation of this precise diesel body has not been established from the supplied material.
