Mission Berliet-Ténéré — Series II 109

Maurice Berliet described ordering the petrol Land Rovers in Algiers and having them prepared at Hussein-Dey with cooling and fuel-system changes, roof ventilation and sun visors. The French Berliet organisation used them to scout for its Gazelle trucks and carry navigation and scientific personnel. The participant interview identifies two 88 soft-tops and three 109 pickups, while other accounts count four Land Rovers. These fleet representations follow original convoy photographs, not the later six-cylinder restoration illustrated in the same article. Pale bodywork, canvas and pennant shades are approximate; registrations are not sufficiently legible to reproduce confidently. Bonnet spares, front fuel cans, wing pennants and aerials, visors and side sand ladders follow the archive views. Small roof-intake and interior radio shapes are restrained interpretations of documented equipment. The 109 includes an open pickup bed and a simple sun-compass representation; exact internal arrangements are not established.
