The record

John Ross and Mary Kingsley were the crew station wagons of the Africa Outside Edge expedition. Kingsley’s contemporary journal describes a three-vehicle convoy, including Lady Baker, carrying humanitarian supplies and travelling along the continent’s coastline.

The model follows the equipment and retained expedition livery of the surviving Kalahari station wagon advertised by Leimers: white body, black rack and recovery guard, raised intake, two rectangular spotlights, a route-flag strip and the large One Net One Life malaria-prevention panels. The seller identifies its engine as a 300Tdi. The photographs do not securely assign this survivor to either individual expedition name, so this is a fleet representation rather than two invented personal configurations. Later Defender Trophy 2023 stickers are omitted. Small flag and sponsor details are simplified.

The queue’s pre-existing country fields have been retained. Its operating-country list includes expedition destinations; only South Africa represents the Foundation’s home country. Exact conversion origin has not been independently established.

Catalogue fields describe the vehicle's structure and body as this registry records it. They are not certified factory measurements, and no performance figures are published here.

AI rendering impression

An AI rendering impression starts from the registry's own 3D model of this vehicle, which an image model then paints into a scene. It is an artist's impression of the type, made to give a feel for the vehicle in its element — not a photograph, and not a record of any particular vehicle.

Proportions, fittings, markings, colours and the setting can all drift from the original in the process. For the vehicle's actual details, rely on the registry's 3D renders, the specification and the cited sources on this page.
