Rudolphs’ London to India — Series I 107

The Rudolphs’ first-person account identifies their new vehicle as a blue-grey, ten-seat, five-door 107-inch station wagon with a white tropical roof above the ordinary roof. Starting officially from Salzburg after stays in England and Germany, they covered 5,114 miles to Peshawar in 25 days before continuing to Jaipur. Their seats converted into a bed and a Higgins two-burner stove was set just inside the rear door. Archive photographs show the five-door body, tropical roof, bonnet spare and plain exterior. The model retains this restrained configuration. Registration characters are not resolved in the archive and have not been invented. Paint shade is an approximation of the specified blue-grey. The queue’s populated operating-country list describes their route; the actual operators were American scholars.
