San Marino Polizia Civile 90

The Republic of San Marino, sixty-one square kilometres on a mountain inside Italy, polices itself with two small forces: the Gendarmeria, and the Polizia Civile, the civil police responsible for traffic, public order and administrative policing. For a territory that climbs from 55 to 750 metres in a few kilometres of hairpins, a short-wheelbase four-wheel-drive is a sensible patrol car, and the Polizia Civile ran Defender 90 station wagons.

The example photographed carries the force's white livery with a red band at the waist and a red stripe along the sills, POLIZIA CIVILE in red on the doors beneath the coat of arms of the Republic, the telephone number 115 on the rear quarter, and a blue lightbar. The Td5 badge on the front wing identifies the five-cylinder Defender of 1998–2007. It was photographed by Nickel Chromo on 18 June 2006 in what appears to be the force's garage, alongside a patrol car in the same livery, and the photograph is in the public domain.
