The record

FFR — Fitted For Radio — is the British Army's designation for a vehicle wired to carry a signals installation: a 24-volt system with a second alternator to keep the batteries up while the radios run, separate from the vehicle's own electrics. On the Wolf it applied to the TUM 110 in soft-top form, and from the mid-2000s the radios it carried were the Bowman system, the digital VHF and HF sets that replaced Clansman.

The documented vehicle behind this record is R985 VSM, a Wolf 110 FFR soft top manufactured into service in July 1998 for the MoD's Signals, with the 300 Tdi four-cylinder diesel, a PVC soft top fastened by zips and Velcro or Dutch-laced down the sides, a snorkel, side-mounted spare, front lamp guards, NATO hitch and MOD front bumper, in NATO Green over a denim vinyl-twill interior. It was cast from service and registered for civilian life in February 2020 with 48,000 miles, and sold on without its Bowman sets — the radios go back to the army, the wiring does not.

The Wolf order of January 1996 ran to some 8,000 vehicles, of which the FFR 110s were a substantial part; a separate FFR figure is not published.
