Richard Bevir and Terence Whitfield set out from Toronto in October 1959. In Panama they joined a separate Jeep and local support team to make the arduous crossing into Colombia. Whitfield’s first-person correction identifies the Land Rover as Canadian-based and distinguishes it from the Panamanian committee’s Jeep.
The model depicts the photographed travelling configuration with bonnet spare, four sideways-facing jerry cans in two front racks, a drum winch, pale roof rack and the TRANS - DARIEN EXPEDITION sign. Wrapped roof cargo follows the photographs. The supplied brief specifies a Series II 88 station wagon. The source page describes a capstan winch, while the supplied follow-up specifically requests the vintage electric/drum arrangement visible in the front photograph. The model follows that visual instruction without claiming the drive mechanism is independently established. Registration characters are insufficiently clear to transcribe confidently. The log-bridge photograph establishes the side Pak Dek / Car Top Carriers sign, Canada to Venezuela strip above the rear window, country list beneath it, pale circle on the door and period Dunlop Tires panel by the rear wheel. Those markings are reproduced; the worn symbol within the door circle is not sufficiently legible to identify.
